The materials contained in this board have been compiled from a variety of sources to assist educators to look at Universal Design for Learning as a framework for building and supporting the Expert Learner.
Teachers who develop expert learners help students value their own thinking. Strategic instructional plans for the learning process are clearly and flexibly in place to guide students to organize their thinking. These enriching learning environments create expert learners who understand learning as a process-not as a product.

An expert learner is a learner who is self-directed, self-regulated, motivated and engaged to learn. They have a purpose to learn something they are interested in. They are responsible and own their learning and monitor their progress. However, this doesn't just happen overnight or even all the time.
Universal Design for Learning (Part 6): Culturally Diverse Learners
Universal Design for Learning, or UDL, is a set of learning design principles that increase access and reduce barriers for all types of learners. This video shows how UDL principles serve culturally diverse students, such as international students or English language learners.
